Matheus Cunha release clause emerges at Aletico Madrid with Leeds United locked in talks

Leeds United and Arsenal target Matheus Cunha reportedly has a release clause at Atletico Madrid which is north of £87.3million.

According to Goal [19 December], the Brazilian’s exit from the La Liga giants is “imminent” with Wolves and Aston Villa also keen on signing him.

Leeds are holding talks to sign the striker and believe that their sporting project can convince him to move to Elland Road.

The report further claims that it will have to be an offer of more than £26.2million that will convince Atletico to sell the 23-year-old.

They cannot expect any club to shell out close to £90million for a striker who isn’t even a goal scorer and is mainly been targeted for his all round play.

The talks with Atletico surely would’ve been positive which is why Leeds are continuing their pursuit despite Arsenal being in the race for him.

However, if it ends up becoming a bidding war, the chances of the Whites signing him are close to none as the Gunners have a crazy amount of funds.

The same can be said about Aston Villa as well as they’ve spent tens of millions over the past three seasons even on managers like Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard who were extremely unpopular.

Now, they’ve gone to bring Unai Emery to the club and will surely back him so if he wants Cunha as a priority, the funds will be made available, leaving Leeds to look elsewhere.

In other Leeds United news, an attacker linked with a move to Elland Road claims that he could leave his Champions League club in the January transfer window.
