Matheus Cunha negotiations not easy for Leeds United - Fabrizio Romano
Leeds United will not find it easy to sign Hertha Berlin attacker Matheus Cunha this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his latest Twitch stream on Tuesday, the Sky Sports Italy journalist shared what he’s been told by his sources at the Bundesliga club in regards to Cunha.
When speaking about the 22-year-old, Romano said: “Good player, a really good player. I really love this player.
“What I’m told from Hertha sources at the moment is there is nothing advanced yet with Leeds and the negotiation is not so easy.”
We have not heard much about the speculation linking Cunha with a move to Leeds in a while.
Victor Orta has been a busy man this summer, signing a bunch of new youth players as well as adding Junior Firpo and Jack Harrison on permanent deals to the first-team.
Will Cunha be another senior addition at Elland Road? It seems unlikely based on this update from Romano.
Cunha is a great player.
Last season, the Brazilian forward scored seven goals and supplied six assists in 27 Bundesliga appearances.
He ticks a massive box for Marcelo Bielsa due to his versatility, which saw him play out wide, behind a striker and as a centre-forward for Hertha last season [transfermarkt].
Bielsa loves a player who can do a bit of everything and Cunha can do that.
According to the Bundesliga website, Cunha is someone who can beat defenders “with his speed, skill or intelligence”.
He’s also been compared to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino due to how he plays up front but shows a tendency to drop deep and have a say in build-up play.
Cunha would be an amazing signing but we’re not going to get our hopes up yet.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared a major update on Bielsa’s future as he searches for a new home.
