Mateusz Klich subject of numerous loan offers as Leeds United await future decision

Leeds United have received a number of loan offers for Mateusz Klich despite permanent interest from D.C. United, according to Tomasz Wlodarczyk.

The Meczyki journalist claimed on Thursday (22 December) that talks were still ongoing between the Polish international and the MLS club who are keen to sign him on a three-year deal.

But while Wayne Rooney’s side are still ahead of the race to sign him, loan offers from other leagues have come in and Leeds could be tempted to negotiate there as they don’t want to lose Klich yet.

Jesse Marsch even admitted that he wanted to keep Klich around the place, saying: “There has been an enquiry for Mateusz but from all sides we’re still cautious about thinking that it might be time for him to leave. He’s still been really important here,” as quoted by The Athletic.

“Mateusz Klich very close to DC United, but the transfer is not closed yet,” Wlodarczyk said via his personal Twitter account. “Talks with Leeds are ongoing. Mateusz is offered a three-year contract. From other leagues, there are mainly loans, so MLS is an attractive destination.

Stay or leave

At 32 years of age, a loan move is a waste of time for Klich and Leeds United so if he is no longer needed or happy at Elland Road then he might as well head to the States and stay there.

Marsch can claim that he is needed at Thorp Arch and a big part of the plans but he knows that he won’t start over Tyler Adams or Marc Roca in the vast majority of games and he is not content to sit on the bench every week.

He missed out on the Poland World Cup squad as a result of his lack of games and he will be in no mood for the same to happen in 2024 when the European Championships take place (should Poland qualify).

Unless either Adams or Roca picks up a significant injury, Klich will have to watch on from the bench at Elland Road with the odd substitute appearance to try and keep him happy but he won’t be truly free until he is allowed to leave.

In other Leeds United news, a host of players missed training earlier this week and yet more Patrick Bamford injury news emerged.
