Mateusz Klich reveal emerges from Poland as Leeds United midfielder suffers World Cup snub
Polish journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk has suggested that it is the “biggest surprise” that Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich was not picked for the World Cup.
While speaking to Meczyki Youtube channel, the journalist has been left stunned that Klich was left out of the 26-man squad as he felt the midfielder has got skills to give the team something extra.
Czesław Michniewicz is not a big fan of Klich who may have lost the final chance to represent his side in a World Cup again.
“The biggest surprise for me is the lack of Mateusz Klich. He may feel the most disappointed that he will not be there, because in my opinion he has the skills to give the team something. We talked about creative footballers and Klich is a footballer who could give an impulse,” said Włodarczyk, as relayed by Meczyki.
It is a huge disappointment for Klich as he will now miss the World Cup in Qatar that gets underway this month.
The Polish midfielder has been a regular for his country in recent years, but the decision was somewhat expected.
Klich was a major player under Marcelo Bielsa, but he has dropped down the pecking order under Jesse Marsch.
His impact on the team waned towards the end of last season, and one could see there’s a gradual decline in form.
There were even talks that Marsch could sell him, but that didn’t happen in the end. He hasn’t played enough for the Whites, managing 11 substitute appearances in the league so far.
This lack of game time eventually turned out to be the major factor in why he was dropped from the Polish side.
At 32, this was probably his last chance to represent the country at the highest level. Klich could use this break to get himself into a better physical shape and work with Marsch closely in training.
