Chris Sutton predicts Leeds United clash v Tottenham, delighted for Jesse Marsch

Leeds United will travel to north London to face Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur in the final game before the World Cup, and Chris Sutton expects the home side to win.

Spurs are heading into this game on the back of two straight defeats in all competitions, but Sutton predicts the home side to pick up a 3-1 win.

The BBC Sports pundit, however, admits that this is a type of game where either side can win it, so Leeds can pull off a surprise here.

“I’ve really not got a clue what will happen here. Spurs boss Antonio Conte says his players are tired, yet they have this record of fighting back in games this season – so that does not really add up,” wrote Sutton for BBC Sport.

“I was genuinely delighted for Leeds boss Jesse Marsch that he followed up his win at Liverpool by beating Bournemouth, because he has had a bit of flak this season.

“I am really not sure about Tottenham’s defence but they have to respond here after a bad week and, with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski in contention to start, they will be dangerous.

“This is the type of game where either side could win it, even if they fall behind – but I am going to go with Spurs.”

Tough fight

This is not a bad time to face Spurs in the Premier League.

If this game was played two or three weeks back, one could have easily predicted a win for Spurs. But now it is tricky.  The Whites have picked up two wins in a row, including an away victory against Liverpool, and their confidence is sky-high.

Yes, they are conceding a lot of goals as well, but they now have a belief that they can outscore their opponent.

Spurs, on the other hand, are going through bad patch, where they have picked up just one win in their last five Premier League games.

It appears that Spurs desperately need a break now. Some of their players will be already focusing on the World Cup ahead, and they could be cautious about getting injured. So, you never know whether they would give their 100% on the pitch.

The Whites need to focus on their defending part. If they can remain tight at the back, then there’s no reason why they can’t get a positive result from this game.
