Mateusz Klich played final Leeds United game v West Ham, DC United travel arrangements being made

Mateusz Klich is edging closer to leaving Leeds United in the January transfer window – and he may have just played his final game for the club.

According to American journalist Tom Bogert, who has written for The Guardian, Klich is close to joining DC United with “everything is agreed” for a permanent transfer to go through.

The Polish midfielder came on as a substitute in the second half against West Ham on Wednesday night (4 Januart) and it is understood that will likely to be his final appearance for the Whites, as plans are being made to jet out to the USA.

“Mateusz Klich to D.C. United continues to get closer. Klich is on the bench for Leeds today, I’m expecting it to be his last appearance before leaving for DCU. Everything is agreed, plans being made to travel the US. Barring a last second change of heart, D.C. United very close,” wrote Bogert on Twitter.

Klich can finally say a proper goodbye to the Elland Road fans as he now looks to start a new journey in his career.

He has been a great servant for the club and arguably played his best football under Marcelo Bielsa.

Under the Argentine, he was the first-choice at the club alongside Kalvin Phillips, but he gradually lost his place since Jesse Marsch took over.

He was tipped to leave the club in the summer as well, but the club promised him game time and he stayed on. Eventually, the club didn’t keep their promise as Klich was left to rot on the bench.

It will be an emotional farewell, but it is always important to act in the best interests of the club, and it’s best for Klich to move away from Elland Road.

He is to about enter the final stages of his career, and he would struggle to get regular opportunities at the club.

Do Leeds need a replacement immediately? Probably not. They have the likes of Adam Forshaw, Sam Greenwood and Darko Gyabi in his position, and the club can cope without him.

Nevertheless, it feels like Klich’s fantastic career at Elland Road has truly come to an end.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have already made an approach to sign a player who could be the next arrival at Elland Road after Max Wober.
