Mateusz Klich: Leeds United defender Pascal Struijk picks up injury v Aston Villa

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has revealed that Pascal Struijk picked up a fresh injury in the 1-0 defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The defender-turned-midfielder was replaced by Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road, but there was no indication of a big problem at the time.

Marcelo Bielsa could be handed a big blow ahead of the trip to West Ham, with no words on the fitness of Kalvin Phillips in the reaction.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Klich revealed that the Dutch youngster could be set for a spell on the sidelines at Elland Road.

“We tried and we had some chances,” he said.

“What can we do? We bring on offensive players to change the game and unfortunately Pascal had to come off because he was injured and I had to come back as the defensive midfielder.

“It didn’t work.”

This could be a huge problem for the Whites.

As mentioned earlier, Phillips is still on the sidelines and there is no clear indication on when he will be back and no clear replacement if Struijk is also ruled out.

Struijk has been perfect for Bielsa this season, who has been able to call on the Dutch colossus in the absence of Phillips and some of his main defenders throughout.

The 21-year-old never would have thought that he would make 15 starts in the Premier League this season, so it will have gone above any expectations he had.

Despite picking up a potential injury, this season will still go down as a massive success for Struijk and the Whites academy at Elland Road.
