Mateo Joseph Fernandez undergoing Leeds United medical

Espanyol striker Mateo Joseph Fernandez is undergoing a medical at Leeds United ahead of a January move, according to Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old will initially link up with Whites under-23 squad and will be looking to quickly catch the eyes of Marcelo Bielsa.

The highly-rated Spaniard impressed with the Spanish side and will now hope to fulfil his huge potential at Elland Road.

Sky Sports reported on their live transfer update on their website on Tuesday (4 January) at 11.06am that the teenager is at the club for his medical.

One for the future

Leeds boast of some of the best youngsters in the land, and they are about to add one of Europe’s most exciting teenagers to their youth ranks.

Marcelo Bielsa has handed a couple of the under-23s starlets playing chances this season and since becoming the Whites head coach, and that would have attracted Joseph.

The likes of Barcelona and Manchester City were both been linked with the teenage sensation, and Leeds have done well to have pipped them to his signature.

Joseph is highly-rated as they come, and Leeds have landed a real gem on their hands again following some brilliant businesses at youth level.

Joe Gelhardt, 19, has played seven games for the west Yorkshire outfit so far in 2021-22, while fellow teenagers Charlie Cresswell, Stuart McKinstry and Sam Greenwood have also seen action.

Bielsa believes if you are good enough, you are old enough, so fans could be seeing Joseph in action soon if he impresses the Argentine at under-23 level.

An official announcement should be expected anytime soon, and while it is unlikely to excite fans, they have a real gem on their hands for the future.
