Massive boost for Leeds as ESPN delivers exact date Championship is hoping to re-start

ESPN has claimed that the EFL is working towards a date of June 6 to start up again, with nine games left in the Championship and Leeds United on the brink of promotion.

That will follow a mini pre-season that will start with clubs training together again from May 16.

The report claims that sources have told them that this will happen if the EFL can get the go-ahead from the government and that lockdown measures are relaxed.

There is said to be “optimism” that this can happen in early June.

The Premier League is set for a meeting of all 20 clubs on Friday to discuss when they could resume their competition.

This is great news for Leeds and fits in with what Rick Parry said in his letter to EFL clubs last week.

That said May 16 would be the earliest day that clubs could train together, with Alan Shearer then saying that players would need three weeks to train to get back to match fitness.

That would fit in with June 6 as the re-start date with matches then having 56 days to play out before the play-offs and a mini-break before next season.

The plan obviously depends on a lot of things dropping into place but with over a month before training is set to start and training already happening in the Bundesliga, this seems very feasible to us.
