Martin Tyler gives Leeds bizarre shoutout during Manchester Derby
Martin Tyler couldn’t help but compare Manchester United to Leeds United while commentating on Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Late in the first half, Man Utd surged forward through Bruno Fernandes and many of his teammates joined the attack.
Veteran commentator Tyler couldn’t resist comparing that passage of play to the relentless attacking Leeds have become known for under Marcelo Bielsa.
After the attack ultimately came to nothing and the game restarted, Tyler said on Sky Sports, “It was almost Leeds United wasn’t it, who are always a good watch.”
Hilariously playing on the fact that both teams end with ‘United’ Tyler sounded pretty happy with himself and Gary Neville agreed in commentary.
Of course, we weren’t so happy to be compared with the Red Devils but it was a nice compliment and another indictment of how we have taken the Premier League by storm this year.
We aren’t going to win the league or challenge at the top, at least not for a while, but everyone knows what we are about after our promotion.
The Marcelo Bielsa style of football is already a Premier League trademark and the fact that the first thing Tyler thought of when he saw Man United attacking was us, proves how far we’ve come.
Again, it would’ve been nicer to be compared to the league leaders but they did nothing ‘Leeds-like’ in the first half against their city neighbours.
In fact, Pep Guardiola would’ve been wise to give Bielsa a call at half time to see if he had any advice about how to get his forwards firing.
The main take away from this is that we were mentioned out of nothing in the Manchester derby.
We are massive.
