Leeds United have been in contact with Brentford about a potential summer swoop for striker Ivan Toney, according to TeamTalk.
The news outlet claims Leeds, Arsenal, Leicester and Wolves have all made contact with Brentford to ask to be informed about any developments regarding his future in West London.
It is understood the Championship high-flyers are ready to demand £30million for 24-year-old Toney, who they signed for £10million last summer when Ollie Watkins left for Aston Villa in a deal worth £28million.
Since joining Brentford last season, Toney has been in incredible form.
The former Newcastle striker has scored 25 goals and supplied nine assists in 33 Championship appearances for the Bees, who are currently sat fourth in the second-tier and three points shy of a top-two spot.
No player in England’s top five leagues has scored more goals than Toney has this season so you can see why a club like Leeds would sound out a potential move for the Brentford goal machine.
However, do they need him?
Patrick Bamford has been in superb form this season at Elland Road.
Many worried about whether Bamford would have the ability to step up from the Championship to the Premier League when he so often struggled in the second-tier with the Whites.
However, only Mohamed Salah , Bruno Fernandes and Harry Kane have scored more times in the Premier League this season than Bamford .
Bamford has also assisted five goals for Leeds, so why would the Whites roll the dice and splash £30million on a striker who’s yet to be proven in the top-flight?
Toney would be a mere back-up option for Bamford unless he was to leave for whatever reason in the summer but we really don’t see that happening.
