Martin O’Neill fires Burnley dig in ‘massive’ Leeds United survival admission

Leeds United will be no stranger to the task that awaits them in the Premier League.

Seven new arrivals have checked in at Elland Road, and with the Premier League campaign still a few weeks away, time is on the side of Leeds United to secure several more additions.

Signing a striker will be a priority, with other areas of the squad needing strengthening from a depth perspective.

However, the Whites have certainly put themselves in a good spot to go on and achieve survival, with Martin O’Neill sharing his thoughts on the fight at the bottom.

O’Neil believes Leeds have a chance at survival

Both Sunderland and Leeds have shown their true ambitions with the signings made so far this summer, and neither look to be slowing down.

Leeds are still pushing to sign Rodrigo Muniz, while the Black Cats are formalising a deal to bring Granit Xhaka back to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Burnley have done very little in the transfer window, with O’Neill sharing a minor dig at the Clarets’ expense.

Via talkSPORT, O’Neill said: “I obviously would love Leeds United to stay up for a start because they are a massive football club.

“Whether they have got the infrastructure, whether they’ve got the wherewithal to do that there, I just don’t know.

“Sunderland, of course, you’d want them to stay up, and who cares less about Burnley?”

Premier League needs Leeds or Sunderland to survive

All six of the recently promoted teams have been relegated without a whimper, with many now just writing seasons off before they even get underway.

Both Sunderland and Leeds have the chance to break that trend and compete with the big boys back where they belong in the Premier League.

The recruitment between now and the end of August will play a crucial role in deciding whether or not they can do that, but they certainly have every chance.
