Martin Keown slams Marcelo Bielsa, makes Leeds United relegation prediction
Martin Keown has slammed Marcelo Bielsa after the humiliating 6-0 defeat Leeds United suffered against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Whites were looking to end their bad run of form, but ended up facing one of their worst defeats of the season.
Despite being within touching distance of the bottom three, Keown, a BBC Match of the Day pundit, does not see Leeds going down this season.
He told talkSPORT, “I’m trying to get to the bottom of what Bielsa wants and what he does. It’s this man-marking system he has and this obsession and desire to mark people, it feels naive.
“I was 50 seconds into the game against Manchester United, there was a free-kick and Maguire’s on the ball and there was five runs made by independent Man United players, just pulling Leeds players all over the pitch.
“It feels like they allow the opposition to dictate too much, they are too obsessed with the opposition. Leeds have got good players and I don’t believe they will go down.”
All over the place
It has become hard to argue with the critics of Bielsa and Leeds, given their performances this season.
They have been abject since the month of August and barring a few glimmers of hope, they’ve looked down and out.
Thankfully, they’re still in a decent position to avoid the drop but results like these are only going to see them getting sucked in.
What they need is a change in fortune against Spurs and it could be the right time to play them.
Their heads seem to be down after the Burnley defeat and they could be there for the taking.
