Martin Keown drops Leeds United and Ipswich Town promotion verdict ahead of QPR clash

Martin Keown has shared a new Leeds United and Ipswich Town promotion verdict ahead of the former’s clash with QPR on Friday (26 April).

Leicester City took an important step towards lifting the Championship title with a 5-0 win over Southampton, with Leeds and Ipswich Town still fighting it out for automatic promotion.

While a victory would see Leeds widen the gap on Ipswich to four points, Kieran McKenna’s side will have two games in hand in an increasingly tense battle.

And Keown, while expecting Leeds to defeat QPR, thinks Ipswich will still finish second.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Friday (26 April, 12:54pm), Keown said: “Obviously, Leicester have found two incredible results just at the right time. It’s over to Leeds, who did really well the other night to beat Middlesbrough – what a game that was.

“I expect them to win at QPR without a doubt. But there is a lot of pressure at opposite ends of the table. I have a feeling Ipswich might win their game in hand and pip Leeds at the line. Let’s see.”

Can Leeds United claim promotion to the Premier League?

Taking into account Daniel Farke’s previous experiences with Norwich City in the division, Leeds know they have a manager who can get the job done as they aim to claim automatic promotion ahead of Ipswich this season.

Three points against QPR are vital at this point in the season, especially with the Tractor Boys still having matches against Hull City, Coventry City and Huddersfield Town remaining.

The Elland Road faithful can take comfort from Ipswich’s recent form, with a three-game winless run including a loss against Norwich and draws against Watford and Middlesbrough.

And the Whites claimed an all-important win over Boro on Monday 22 April, edging a seven-goal thriller at the Riverside Stadium.

If Farke’s side can continue that form into the final two games of the season, they have every chance of pipping Ipswich to the second automatic promotion spot.
