Leeds United got their first taste of new signing Daniel James in the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday.
The Welshman was a straight swap for Jack Harrison on the left-hand side, although the red card to Pascal Struijk could have changed things.
Fans have been left wondering where James fits in at Elland Road, with Jay Roberts asking where he will start.
“What will Dan James’ starting position be?”
Sunday was a little glimpse into what we can expect from James.
In a game that was already gone, his pace was easy to see when tracking back with Trent Alexander-Arnold or bombing forward on the counter.
Rodrigo was once again terrible in that number 10 role, and it could make fitting in our new signing much easier.
Harrison and Raphinha have cemented their spots out wide, but there has already been talk of the Brazilian moving inside into a central role.
James would never play that central role, and he looks all but set to play on the left if started by Bielsa in the Premier League.
His first full start could come on Friday, with a defensive crisis meaning that Stuart Dallas could be forced into defence.
That opens two spots in midfield if Rodrigo is dropped too, which could push Raphinha inside and James out wide against Newcastle.
We expect to see the Welsh flyer playing out wide, and bombing forward to give us a serious weapon in the final third when countering.
Whether that will affect Raphinha, time will tell, but we don’t see one of them just staying on the bench for the majority of the season.
