Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Leeds United clash v Chelsea
Mark Lawrenson has made his prediction for the big Premier League clash between Leeds United and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this weekend (4 March).
The Whites picked up a much-needed league win over Southampton last time out, but suffered a 2-0 loss to Fulham in the FA Cup in midweek despite a strong performance.
Chelsea’s struggles have been well documented and with the two clubs known to have a dislike for each other in recent history, Lawrenson told Paddy Power (3 March) that he expects a close game that would suit Leeds and not help Graham Potter’s job prospects.
“In the 70s these two used to hate each other,” he said. “After 30 minutes the referee used to say, ‘Right, shall we put the ball on the pitch now!’ There’s still that little bit of ranker there.
“Graham Potter’s under pressure but if you don’t have a centre forward what can you do?
“He’s trying everything but Leeds have calmed down under Javi Gracia, they still run everywhere but there’s a little more thought about it now.

“I think this might be a draw which Leeds will take but it won’t solve any of Potter’s problems. Chelsea 1-1 Leeds.”
Positive
The win over Southampton gave Leeds a bit of breathing room in the battle against relegation and moved us away from the relegation zone last time out.
Our performances in the two games under Gracia have been really encouraging and despite the defeat to Fulham in the FA Cup, on another day it’s a game we would have won 4 or 5-0.
Chelsea are in a rut right now, but their fans will be right up for this game and pushing them on to get one over on us and finally kickstart a run of good form for themselves.
But Leeds will have a great chance to frustrate and punish them with another good performance, and a win in this game would be entirely unexpected. It would mean bonus points in the battle against the drop.
Every little helps at this stage of the season, and if we’re the ones to put the final nail in the coffin of Potter’s Chelsea career then it would be a great weekend.
