CBS journalist fumes at Illan Meslier after 'absolute howler' in Leeds United FA Cup defeat v Fulham

Illan Meslier has been blasted after another “absolute howler” cost Leeds in their FA Cup defeat to Fulham, according to CBS journalist Jake Winderman.

The Whites suffered a 2-0 defeat after two world-class strikes from Joao Palhinha and Manor Solomon either side of half-time, meaning Leeds were eliminated from the FA Cup.

And Winderman couldn’t help but blame the French goalkeeper for the first goal, questioning his positioning for the strike and suggesting he does it too regularly.

“Nobody makes world class saves while also allowing absolute howlers like Meslier,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account (28 February).

“How is he so out of position there?”

Meslier is a top level goalkeeper, that much is clear, but he does still have quite a few lapses in concentration despite his vast experience for a young player.

That type of lapse leads to goals being scored, and Leeds are in a relegation battle right now which means they simply can’t afford things like that to happen.

There have been plenty of periods in his Elland Road career where Meslier has saved Leeds with big saves and performances, but to take the step to the next level as a professional he needs to cut these slack errors out.

Outside of that he is one of the very best players at the club, and there’s no shock that he is constantly linked with a move away to the bigger clubs in the division.

But fans will feel similarly to Winderman on this instance, because it was so easily avoidable and that moment changes the entire course of the game.

In other Leeds news, a Victor Orta favorite is likely to move to Spain with his contract set to expire this summer.
