Mark Jackson has confirmed that Leeds United talent Joe Gelhardt will return from injury shortly and rejoin training at Thorp Arch.
The under-23s smashed Burnley 5-2 on Monday afternoon and lifted the Premier League 2 Division 2 title afterwards in great scenes.
There was one man missing from the action, and it was Gelhardt, but it was brilliant to see him among the celebrations after his huge role this season.
Speaking to Leeds Live after the title celebrations on Monday, Jackson delivered the big update on our talented young talisman.
“Really disappointing for Joffy to pick up a little niggle and miss the last game. He’s a talented player,” he said.
“He’ll be extremely gutted to miss the game like any player. It won’t be long until he returns, he’s working hard with the physio staff.
“He’ll be back shortly, it’s nothing serious.”
With the under-23s season all done and dusted, all eyes will switch to the first team.
There will be no resting on their laurels after all of this success, the young talents will be pushing to secure their Premier League debuts in these final games.
Gelhardt has been joined by the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Sam Greenwood on the bench in recent weeks and months, and all three attackers have earned their spot.
The former Wigan talent has been tipped for greatness by many fans, who would be delighted to watch his debut before the end of the season.
With West Brom on the final day this month, it could be interesting to see who is given that chance, Gelhardt looks to be well on course to be fit for that one.
