Marcelo Bielsa shares Leeds United plans in January after Kalvin Phillips injury

Marcelo Bielsa claims that it is possible that Leeds United venture into the market in January to sign a player.

This comes after Kalvin Phillips picked up another injury which, according to The Telegraph, keeps him out of action for two months.

Leeds have been linked with a host of midfielders over the last two years and it remains to be seen whether they finally get one over the line next month.

According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, “Bielsa asked if this [Phillips injury] changes plans for the January window. Says if the club can find players who are better than his then ‘It’s a possibility that’s welcome but we all know the difficulty of the winter market.’

“Says it’s difficult to find players who are ‘competing’ and available.”

Must sign someone

The Whites do not venture into January because of the obvious reasons, but this time it’s ever so important for them to secure a signing.

Even without injuries, midfield has been the Achilles heel of this team which has led to players like Rodrigo being deployed there even though he would prefer an advanced role.

Signing a specialist number eight could go a long way towards solving Bielsa’s problems.

The fact that he’s not ruling out signing someone means that there is a good chance of something happening.

He could already be on the phone with Victor Orta telling him to put the wheels in motion for a January signing.

Whether or not the Whites are able to pull this one off, remains to be seen.
