Marcelo Bielsa responds to question on Kalvin Phillips injury after Leeds win v West Brom
Marcelo Bielsa is hopeful that Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips can represent England at EURO 2021 next month.
The Whites crushed West Brom 3-1 at Elland Road this afternoon, but it was marred by a potential big blow to the Yorkshire Pirlo.
Phillips went flying into a tackle on Grady Diangana but looked to severely injured the shoulder that he had problems with earlier in the season.
As shared on Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Lee Sobot’s Twitter, Bielsa responded to a question on Phillips’ fitness after the clash.
“I couldn’t tell you if the injury is severe or not and we hope that he can go to the Euros,” he said.
Gutted.
We can’t believe that Phillips may not get the chance to represent his country on the biggest stage in a major tournament.
It was such a pointless challenge, too.
Phillips was at fault for our conceded goal as he miscontrolled possession, and he was likely trying to make up for that mistake with a big challenge in front of the fans.
It certainly backfired, and we felt how bad he must have been feeling as he trudged off the pitch with plenty of medical assistance at Elland Road.
Hopefully, we will get some good news in the next week, with nothing left to play for at club level until next season.
Gareth Southgate will have had someone watching at Elland Road, so it won’t have been a pleasant sight for all parties involved.
