Marcelo Bielsa praises four Leeds players after 1-0 win v Watford

Leeds United secured their first win in the Premier League this season after beating Watford 1-0 at Elland Road on Saturday.

Diego Llorente scored the only goal of the match with an instinctive finish inside the penalty box to earn all three points for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Bielsa said after the match was it was a “relief” after they picked up a win, and that they can take a lot of positives from the game.

The Argentine has suggested what pleased him most was that the Whites didn’t make any errors during the game.

It can be argued that Illan Meslier was lucky after Watford’s disallowed strike while a case can be made that Leeds were not clinical enough.

Bielsa has suggested that he has been left impressed with the performances of Llorente, Kalvin Phillips, Jamie Shackleton and Tyler Roberts.

“I thought that Shackleton evolves. Diego Llorente came back well. Phillips had influence. Tyler Roberts came in very well. The rest were all at a level from medium to high,” said Bielsa, as quoted by Leeds Live.

Bielsa spot on

Shackleton – This could be the breakthrough season for the 21-year-old who has been showing tremendous progress this season.

His energy is infectious but what has been really pleasing is his composure in the middle. The best part about his game is that he keeps it simple, and yet he is not afraid to play out forward passes.

Llorente – Leeds have missed the Spaniard badly in the past few games, and he has made a great impact.

He is a fantastic defender who brings stability and balance at the back. While Watford were very poor yesterday, the performances of both Cooper and Llorente were top draw as they didn’t allow the visitors to have a shot on target.

Phillips – It was routine stuff for the England midfielder. We have run out of adjectives to describe him. He was influential and did what he does best.

Roberts – It is becoming a worrying trend in a way that Roberts generally plays well from the bench.

He has brilliant in his cameo role and could have had a goal to his name, but the crossbar came to rescue the visitors.
