Marcelo Bielsa drools over Leeds winger Raphinha

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has showered heaps of praise on Brazilian winger Raphinha.

The Whites will face Tottenham on Sunday in the Premier League, and ahead of the match, Bielsa has praised him heavily.

The Argentine has hailed him as an elite player, saying he is ambitious.

Raphinha impressed heavily last season in his debut campaign. However, he has taken his game to a whole new level this term.

Bielsa has made a bold claim that Raphinha will get a lot better once the team starts to perform better.

When asked how he avoids relying too heavily on Raphinha, the Argentine said, as quoted by Leeds Live: “Another characteristic of the elite players is that they’re ambitious and that the demands and the limits they put on themselves. They don’t need an external stimulus to make them want to do this.”

Bielsa further added: “He is sufficiently good right now, if you ask me how I imagine his evolution I would say: to maintain regular performances like the ones he’s achieving would be a great indicator and the other great challenge that other players who shine have is to transfer that evolution to his teammates and to the team. Raphinha will be a lot better if the team is better and if his teammates are better.”

Raphinha has managed five goals this season in the Premier League, but his contribution to the side goes beyond just scoring goals.

He has been the shining light for the Whites this season, and has been head and shoulders above the rest.

Leeds collectively have failed to reach the standards they had set for themselves last season, and the fluidity and cohesion in the side are somewhat lacking this term.

There have been times when Raphinha single-handedly bailed them out, producing moments of inspiration and sublime quality.

He is a hard-working player who puts in tremendous defensive shifts, always helping the full-backs by tracking back.

Raphinha is an asset to this club, and he is already performing at a high level. However, Bielsa feels he can get even better if other players raise their game.
