Marcelo Bielsa raves about Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier

Marcelo Bielsa has showered praise on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier ahead of their Premier League clash against Brentford on Sunday.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper has had a tough time this season with Leeds struggling to recapture their previous campaign form.

The youngster has been impressive overall, and he has kept back-to-back clean sheets against Brighton and Crystal Palace.

“He’s a goalkeeper with a lot of personality. He’s a goalkeeper who transmits security, he has weight with decisive interventions. And there are interventions that have the same weight as a goal in our favour and he’s resolved these type of actions,” said Bielsa (03 December), as quoted by Leeds Live.

Building momentum

Meslier is a superb goalkeeper who has improved a lot this season.

He has been very unlucky in that Leeds have struggled with loads of injuries this season.

Goalkeepers love to have a settled back three or back four ahead of them, and over a period of time, the rapport develops.

This season, Leeds have missed the likes of Luke Ayling and Robin Koch while Diego Llorente was absent in the opening few matches as well.

However, the injuries are now drying up and key players are returning to the squad. The Whites now need to build a strong momentum after a rough patch.

The fluidity in the team that we saw from Leeds last season is still missing but at this moment getting points on board is crucial.

The 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace have lifted the pressure a bit and they must look to build on that when they face Brentford this weekend.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are ready to make major January signings with unexpected deals to force action.
