Marcelo Bielsa comments on Adam Forshaw
Marcelo Bielsa has suggested that Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has been training with the squad ahead of their weekend’s Premier League clash.
The Whites will face Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday at Elland Road.
Leeds are heading into this game on the back of a 2-1 win against Norwich City.
It was their second win of the season at Carrow Road, and Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping to make it two wins in a row for the first time this season when they take on the Foxes.
Forshaw, 30, has endured a nightmare time at Leeds with his injuries, but he has returned to full fitness this season. He played well in the first half against Arsenal, and came on as a substitute against Norwich.
The Argentine has said that Forshaw is “healthy”, and he has been training with the team. Bielsa said, as quoted by Leeds Live:
“He is healthy. He has been training. The performance of a player is based on whether he is healthy to play. With technical and physically he can assimilate the competition. You have to confirm this data in consecutive games. Forshaw is healthy. He has been training. Now he has to assimilate a succession of games.”
He has made only 39 minutes of appearances in the Premier League, and Bielsa is absolutely spot on with his assessment.
At the same time, he is not yet ready to start a Premier League game, especially the high-intensity approach under Bielsa.
He needs to be used cautiously. What Bielsa is trying to convey here is that he is taking Forshaw’s fitness into account game by game.
Forshaw is a technically gifted player and Leeds will reap benefits from him if he stays fit. He is a very good passer of the ball and could play a big role this season, even from the bench.
Leicester have struggled to maintain consistency this season. They lost 2-0 against Arsenal and managed a 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow in the Europa League.
