Marcelo Bielsa: Adam Forshaw has tear in posterior part of thigh

Leeds United suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham United at Elland Road on Saturday evening, and they have more injury worries.

Patrick Bamford, Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Pascal Struijk and Luke Ayling were all unavailable due to knocks for the Hammers clash, and Raphinha was also withdrawn during the game.

Whites midfielder Adam Forshaw was not named in the matchday squad for the game, and Marcelo Bielsa has revealed that he has sustained a tear in the posterior part of his thigh.

The Elland Road head coach told Leeds-Live after the game when asked about Forshaw’s whereabouts.

Asked if it is that serious and a long absence, the Argentine replied: “With a muscular injury, they usually consume a month’s time.

“Forshaw makes enormous efforts to not reinjure himself, but after two years out it takes a lot to get back into the swing of things.”

Another blow?

Forshaw has only featured in the League Cup this term, playing against Crewe and Fulham.

Given the Whites’ injury problems, he might have had the chance to play in the top-flight had he been fit, but his knock is a major concern for Bielsa.

Leeds United were unable to sign another central midfielder during the summer transfer window despite their best efforts, and even owner Andrea Radrizzani insisted having Forshaw back is a huge boost in the department.

Unfortunately, the former Middlesbrough star is unable to help the team at the moment, and Bielsa will hope he can return to full fitness sooner rather than later.

Forshaw was out for 697 days before returning to competitive action for Leeds, and the fans were glad to finally see him back in the starting XI against Crewe.

Given his lengthy injury layoffs and setbacks, the latest knock is worrying and frustrating, and it remains to be seen for how long he will be out.
