Marc Roca shares who will decide if he stays at Leeds United or not next season
Marc Roca says that his future is up to his agent, Leeds United, Real Betis and God.
Roca joined Real Betis on loan last summer after Leeds suffered relegation from the Premier League.
He has enjoyed a fruitful campaign back in his native Spain and appears keen to make the move permanent, if possible.
Speaking to ABC Sevilla, he said: “I have always said that I am happy at Betis. How the fans have treated me is incredible. Also from my teammates, from the staff.
“I think I’m having a very good season. That’s what I focus on.
“In the end, it is up to my representative, the sports management, Betis, Leeds and God.”
Permanent move for Marc Roca might be best for Leeds United
It was viewed as something of a coup when Leeds landed Roca from Bayern Munich in 2022.
The midfielder had been in high demand in the summer of 2020 when the Bundesliga giants won the race for his signature, but the Spaniard struggled to make his mark across his two seasons in Bavaria.
Better players than Roca have found themselves in similar situations at Bayern in years gone by and his struggles in Germany were by no means a negative indicator of his ability, leading to excitement when he chose Leeds as the launching pad from which to kick-start a stuttering career.
However, he was unable to prevent the Whites from slipping into the Championship in his sole season at Elland Road and, while his talent is evident, he did not establish a reputation as a player who Leeds could build a side around in the Premier League.
With a wealth of midfield talent in the form of Ethan Ampadu, Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev at Daniel Farke’s disposal, generating a tidy sum from Roca’s sale and reinvesting that in the squad may be the best course of action this summer.
