Manchester United could step up pursuit of Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips after what Rangnick said

Manchester United could throw the kitchen sink and try to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The Reds have massively underperformed this season and Ralf Rangnick’s new manager bounce has not really kicked in at Old Trafford.

Midfield has been the Achilles heel of the side and they’re set to lose at least two more in that position this summer.

Nemanja Matic has already announced that he will not be a part of the Erik ten Hag era at the club and Paul Pogba is set to follow him out of the exit door.

Ahead of Man United v Arsenal, Rangnick said that the Frenchman is unlikely to sign a new deal at the club.

Via Fabrizio Romano, he said, “As it seems right now, Paul will not renew his contract. It’s most likely that he won’t be here at Man United anymore next season”.

“Pogba won’t be available for the Arsenal game and most likely not for the other four upcoming games.”

This could very well see the billionaire Glazer Family loosen the purse strings to sign a replacement in the summer.

In recent weeks, Phillips has been mooted to be a top target for the Old Trafford outfit.

According to Manchester Evening News, they are set to begin negotiations to sign the 26-year-old this summer.

Phillips has a contract on the table from Leeds, but will surely be keeping a track of all the interest shown in him.

Whether or not he will consider a move to Manchester United remains to be seen, but there’s a good chance, with Pogba, set to leave that they look to initiate contact over a big-money summer switch.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
