Manchester City place Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips top of their list ahead of summer move
Manchester City have placed Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips at “the top of a list” of replacements for Fernadinho in the summer, according to Daily Mail.
The City legend departs after nine years of service at the Etihad as he heads back to Athletico Paranaense next season.
The Whites midfielder is said to have the “perfect profile” to fill the void the Brazilian will leave in the Premier League champions’ squad.
Despite barely featuring under Jesse Marsch due to injuries, the 26-year-old is a key player for the Elland Road outfit.
Leeds securing their top-flight status for next season will see the maestro’s fee increase should he depart with the Citizens expected to pursue Phillips in the coming weeks.
When Phillips talks, it always seems as if he is going to stay at Leeds forever but everyone knows that isn’t how football works anymore.
It would be amazing if he did stay and staying in the Premier League only boosts those chances but nothing is certain.
The Englishman has a host of clubs in the mix for him and unfortunately, it seems like he has a choice of two Manchester clubs which the Whites’ fans will not be happy about.
Of course, Aston Villa are in for him as well but for him to leave his boyhood club for a club at the level of the Lions would be a farce – only the biggest and the best are good enough for Phillips.
At the end of the day, he is good enough to play for any club he wants and certainly has the pick of the bunch.
With that being said, nobody will value him like Leeds do which is why he needs to stay, build a legacy and solidify himself as a club legend.
