Athletic journo reacts to Leeds United ace Raphinha 'bizarre' celebration at FT v Brentford

Athletic Journalist Jay Harris has shared the “bizarre scenes” at the Brentford Community Stadium as Leeds United survived the drop.

A 2-1 win against the Bees in conjunction with Burnley losing 2-1 against Newcastle secured the Whites’ Premier League safety.

Goals from Raphinha and Jack Harrison were enough for Jesse Marsch’s side on the last day of the season but the Brazil international’s celebration at full-time has caught people’s eye.

Harris said on Twitter: “Bizarre scenes. Raphinha is crawling on his knees all the way over to the Brentford fans…”

Great escape.

What a day for Leeds United Football Club. They have officially avoided the drop to the Championship and everyone can breathe a huge sigh of relief at long last.

It has been a season full of extreme lows and not too many highs to balance things but they have crawled over the line and that is the only thing that matters.

The Whites looked nailed on to go down at several points of the season – including today – but they have defied all odds to stay up.

Credit has to go to Marsch who did a brilliant job of steadying the ship with the Elland Road outfits form an absolute car crash when he took charge.

They looked nailed on for relegation but the American did as good of a job as you can hope for after taking over from club legend Marcelo Bielsa.

Hopefully, this time next season they will be nowhere near the bottom of the table.

For that to happen, a huge summer is needed – hopefully, Leeds can keep hold of all their best players now and make some key additions to the squad.
