Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips worried about England future as Leeds United look to offer exit route

Former Leeds United hero and now Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is reportedly worried about his lack of appearances at the Etihad Stadium.

According to 90 Min [27 March], the 27-year-old is concerned that little to no game time may see Gareth Southgate exclude him from his squads in the future.

Phillips has struggled to make a mark since his summer move to City, failing to start a single league or Champions League game for them.

It’s understood that Leeds are eyeing a reunion this summer, just a year after letting him join the Premier League champions.

Unlikely?

Phillips is a fan favourite and is Leeds United through and through so it makes all the ingredients for a perfect union.

However, for City to suddenly abandon the idea of trying to make things work is wishful thinking and they would certainly want him around for squad depth.

Even if they let him leave, it poses a decent risk for Leeds as he’s not the player he once was as his injury has taken a lot away from his game.

He’ll also be an expensive acquisition in a position that they do not really need any reinforcements in as of now.

Currently, Tyler Adams is doing a very good job at anchoring the midfield and if they avoid relegation, Weston McKennie is expected to join permanently.

Marc Roca’s also been thriving of late under Javi Gracia and there are a lot of reasons that make this move extremely unlikely so Leeds fans shouldn’t get too excited.

In other Leeds United, the Whites are now in pole position to seal their first signing under Javi Gracia despite interest from a Premier League rival.
