Lucas Radebe would have loved to have played for Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United because of how much the Argentine has improved the players.
Since taking charge of Leeds in 2018, Bielsa has led Leeds to a third-placed finish while this season they sit top of the Championship table and seven points clear of third.
Bielsa has not really done much to change personnel at Elland Road but has instead improved the players he inherited by leaps and bounds, as well as adding one or two players in on permanent and loan transfers.
Radebe has been asked if he would have liked to play for Bielsa by a Leeds fan and he has recalled what he was told about the Whites boss by players and director of football Victor Orta.
“I haven’t met Bielsa but hearing from the players and meeting Victor Orta, in his first session he got the players to pick up rubbish,” said Radebe in a live Q&A session on Leeds’ Facebook page.
“That shows the kind of manager he is.”
Radebe added: “I would have loved to play under him because looking at the team, he changed most of those players and that team is formidable and looks unstoppable.”
Radebe is spot on.
Look at the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Stuart Dallas, Mateusz Klich or Luke Ayling. All of them were there before Bielsa was in charge and none of them were doing anything that special while Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom were in charge.
Phillips and Dallas were in and out of the side, Klich was barely playing and being sent out on loan and Ayling was struggling to put together two good performances.
Now, they are all vital players for the Whites in their push to win promotion and are looking like proper Premier League players.
