Leeds United fans are pleased to see that number one goalkeeper Kiko Casilla is reportedly considering leaving Elland Road at the end of the season.
Since his arrival from Real Madrid last January, Casilla, 33, has been a controversial character with the Spaniard not really impressing the majority of the club’s support with his performances.
Casilla has been responsible for some very high-profile errors, not least against Derby in the play-off semi-finals last season when his horror show in between the sticks cost the Whites a spot in the final at Wembley.
This season has seen Casilla continue to repeat costly errors time after time and his ban for racially abusing Jonathan Leko has been the final straw for a lot of supporters.
Football Insider has now reported that a number of clubs in Spain are willing to sign the disgraced 33-year-old and Leeds themselves believe it might be best for the goalkeeper to move on once the transfer window re-opens.
It could make financial sense for Leeds as well as everything else with Casilla entering the final year of his big-money contract next month and, at the age of 33, is unlikely to have much resale value.
Although Illan Meslier is only on loan at Elland Road, if Leeds can sign him permanently from Lorient, there’s no reason why the Frenchman cannot be Marcelo Bielsa’s new number one goalkeeper, taking over from Casilla.
Those reasons might be why so many fans are keen to see the back of Casilla with this news emerging about his future in Yorkshire.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Good he was a liability at times. Still haven't forgiven him for the cock up against Derby. Plus he's one of the highest earners
