‘Load of old cobblers’ – Simon Jordan not convinced by Jesse Marsch at Leeds

Simon Jordan believes Jesse Marsch is ‘blowing smoke up his players back sides to get them on side’ after starting his Leeds tenure with a defeat at the weekend.

The American coach took charge of his first game against Leicester on Saturday and watched on as the Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat at the King Power Stadium.

After the game Marsch praised his players despite the result, calling them ‘intelligent’ and ‘brave’. But after host Jim White played a clip of a post-game interview from the boss on their talkSPORT show [March 7th, 12:30pm], Jordan wasn’t convinced he was being totally honest.

“Load of old cobblers,” he claimed.

“He’s blowing smoke up his player’s back sides to get them on side.

“I mean the fact of the matter is the players aren’t stupid, they aren’t gormless. They can understand instructions, and I’d bet the instructions he gave them weren’t that difficult.”

Ouch

Obviously Marsch needs the players and fans to be on side, so after one game he isn’t going to be overly negative. Especially after just four days of training.

However Jordan seemed to be overly harsh towards the new boss, who saw his side turn in a pretty good performance considering the context of the game.

It’s important to note that the Whites were still without key duo Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford, while star-attacker Raphinha is currently on a run of just one goal in ten games.

The boss must address these issues and start getting results quickly to help steer them away from relegation, and if that means telling some white lies to keep morale up then so be it.

He wouldn’t be the first manager to do it and he certainly won’t be the last, and if it gets the results needed from the players then he should carry on.
