Leicester favourites to sign Boubakary Soumare, Leeds jet out on scouting mission - report
Leeds United scouts were sent on a mission to watch Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare on Friday evening, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper have reported on their website that Leicester City are still favourites for his signature, and are hoping to wrap up a £21million transfer this summer.
It is suggested that talks are ongoing between the French club and the Foxes, although they hope for rival bids; suggesting the fee could rise significantly.
What will our scouts have seen on Friday?
Soumare completed 90 minutes and delivered an assist in the 3-0 win over Lens, as Lille took a huge step to winning the Ligue 1 title ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.
The 22-year-old was inspirational, making three tackles and completing five interceptions, according to WhoScored as he dominated the opposition.
So, the French youth international can get forward as well as being the perfect defensive pivot, and he sounds perfect for our midfield ahead of Kalvin Phillips or even in that role if needed.
This is a clear area that needs strengthening within the squad at Elland Road.
Ahead of next season, Phil Hay has already reported that the Whites will sign five or more new, with one being a younger player in the Phillips mould.
Soumare appears to be perfect for that, and for just over £21million, he could be an absolute bargain should we make our move quickly.
Marcelo Bielsa is a massive draw, and should we end the season with a bang, the draw to move to a club pushing for Europe next season could swing the tide in our favour.
