Leeds United: Willy Gnonto shares injury update with fan at Elland Road

Leeds United winger Willy Gnonto posed for a picture with a fan following the 3-1 victory over Hull City and gave an insight into when he’ll be back in first-team action.

The Italian international has missed Leeds’ last two games but hinted at a return as soon as the Whites’ next fixture against Coventry City on Saturday, April 6.

Leeds fan, NotLuca, posted on X after the match with a photo alongside Gnonto, who has scored seven goals in 30 Championship appearances for the Whites this season, saying: “My mate. Said he should be back on Saturday.”

It was suggested that the winger could be out for up to three weeks after the blow on international duty, but that may well have changed.

Gnonto return is welcome headache for Daniel Farke

The prospect of Gnonto returning as early as the sixth-last game of the season is a welcome one for Leeds fans, given the sensational form he’s shown during the long-standing unbeaten run.

Since early February, the Italian has scored the winner at Bristol City, a brace at Swansea, and netted the opening goal in crucial victories over Plymouth and Millwall, firing Leeds to second in the Championship with the season run-in beckoning.

Gnonto’s absence has opened the door for Welsh winger Dan James to re-establish his spot on the right-hand side, adding to his 13-goal tally with a strike from the halfway line in Leeds’ 3-1 victory over Hull.

However, if Gnonto immediately shows signs of being as impactful as he was last month, Leeds boss Farke will be spoilt for choice when it comes to free-scoring wide players.
