Leeds United willing to shell out £10m to sign New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos

Leeds United are reportedly keen on securing the services of New York City FC striker Valentin Castellanos in the summer.

According to La Pagina Millionaria, the Whites are prepared to part ways with a fee of £10million in order to sign the 23-year-old.

The Argentine bagged 19 goals and five assists last season and became the first NYCFC player to seal the MLS Golden Boot title.

It’s understood that the Whites have already made contact with the striker’s agents to express their keenness on bringing him to Elland Road.

Despite interest from Leeds, Castellanos is keen on moving to his home country and a move to River Plate appears to be close.

Worth a punt?

If somehow the Whites can convince him that the Premier League is a better place for him to thrive, then they must do it quickly.

By all means, the 23-year-old is a goal-scoring phenomenon who finds the back of the net for fun in the United States.

The Premier League is surely a different kettle of fish, but given his age, he is surely going to thrive.

He’s already a future Argentina international in the making and given how old their current crop of attackers are, we could be seeing a lot more of him in their first team.

Should Marcelo Bielsa stay on for another season, Castellanos may be tempted to move to Leeds.

The Argentine is clearly a hero in the South American country and is renowned as one of the most influential coaches of all time.
