Leeds want to sign Tommaso Pobega, Marcelo Bielsa is a big admirer - report

Leeds United want to sign AC Milan midfielder Tommaso Pobega this summer, according to Calciomercato.

The Italian outlet have reported on their website that the Whites have already tested the waters, implying they have made contact with the San Siro giants.

It is suggested that Marcelo Bielsa is a big fan of the 21-year-old that they describe as “super” after two shining loan spells away from AC Milan.

Eintracht Frankfurt are another club that are interested and look set to rival the Whites for the midfield sensation this summer.

That complicates things.

AC Milan are said to have an excellent relationship with the Bundesliga side, and that could give them the upperhand in negotiations.

What we can’t underestimate is the power of Bielsa, though, with El Loco enough to make players’ heads turn just at the mention of his name.

Pobega in?

The midfield sensation is currently away with Italy in the Under-21 European Championships and has shined on loan at Spezia in the past year.

He has enjoyed a spell of goalscoring since the end of the season, scoring three in his final three Serie A games, and then scoring for Italy against Portugal in defeat last week.

We clearly need another midfielder, with the likes of Pablo Hernandez leaving and Stuart Dallas being moved into the middle of the park.

Kalvin Phillips will start, that is guaranteed, but Pobega would offer serious competition to those ahead of the Yorkshire Pirlo such as Dallas and Mateusz Klich.

There is always room for a midfielder who can push into the final third and find the back of the net, Bielsa is always a big fan of that versatility.

This is certainly one to watch, but we may need to move quickly to beat Frankfurt.
