Jon Newsome: Leeds United will look to sell Kiko Casilla this summer

Jon Newsome has insisted that Leeds United will look to sell goalkeeper Kiko Casilla in the upcoming summer window.

The Spaniard started the final two Premier League games of the season against Southampton and West Brom, in what appeared like a farewell.

Newsome is led to believe that Casilla is one of the highest earners at Elland Road, and will be moved on to make space in the budget for others to come in.

Speaking to This is Futbol, Newsome admitted that Leeds can’t afford to have huge wages just sitting on the bench for an entire season.

“I’m led to believe he’s probably one of the highest-paid players at the club,” he said.

“You don’t want your number two goalkeeper one of the highest-paid players at the club, and I would be surprised if he’s still here at the start of pre-season.

“It’s definitely an area that the club needs to strengthen because we need some back-up now.”

Cut ties.

It would make sense for all parties if Casilla was able to move on this summer.

The Spaniard doesn’t have the best of relationships with the fans after being charged with racist abuse last season and at his age, he will want consistent football.

Illan Meslier is shining and has proven himself as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world, and he will only get better with more Premier League action under his belt.

As for Leeds, they will be getting rid of one of their highest-earners, making space for another player to be brought in on huge wages over the summer.

We would rather someone such as Elia Caprile be given that spot on the bench, as it will only improve him as he looks to challenge Meslier in the future.

It is a win-win for all parties.
