Leeds want to sign Dael Fry after numerous scouting missions - report

Leeds United want to sign Middlesbrough defender Dael Fry in the summer, according to Football League World.

It is reported on their website that the Whites have scouting the 23-year-old, who has been a mainstay under Neil Warnock since his arrival at the Riverside.

Burnley, Wolves, Southampton and Brentford have all been credited with an interest, as the competition really starts to heat up.

The first stumbling block is that Brentford are credited with “serious” interest.

Leeds will be looking for a younger option to possibly take the role that Gaetano Berardi had, someone who can sit on the bench and come on when needed.

Newly-promoted Brentford will want to significantly improve their side coming into the Premier League, as they won the play-off final, but mainly thanks to their talisman Ivan Toney.

This is a rivalry that we are buzzing to restart again in the big time, although it is hard to see where Fry may come into the mix moving forward.

Why Fry?

The 23-year-old may have impressed in a struggling Boro side, but it is hard to see him ever breaking into the team at Elland Road.

It would take another disastrous year such as last season packed with injuries for him to make an impression, with four solid central defenders already at the club.

Pascal Struijk has proved himself more than worthy of having that young and upcoming enforcer title, and then there is the likes of Charlie Cresswell also coming through.

Warnock admitted his shock last season that no Premier League clubs came calling, especially after Burnley had two bids rejected back in 2019, the highest being £10million.

That is a lot of money for someone who would struggle for minutes at Elland Road, and despite our scouting missions, our priorities lie elsewhere.
