Leeds United want to sign Burnley defender Nathan Collins with relegated club in crisis

Leeds United want to sign Burnley defender Nathan Collins this summer, according to talkSPORT.

It is reported that the Whites are looking to take advantage of Burnley’s relegation, with Vincent Kompany facing a defensive crisis given that James Tarkowski and Ben Mee have already left.

Collins is said to have no shortage of offers with Aston Villa and Wolves also in the race for the 21-year-old after shining at Turf Moor at times last season.

Leeds could be looking to strengthen their defence with their fourth signing of the summer.

Marc Roca is on the verge of completing his deal to follow Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson as he commits his future to Elland Road.

Collins could follow that trio to West Yorkshire, but the heart of their defence seems to be the one area that is heavily stocked in the Leeds squad.

Smart or Unnecessary?

Collins is a young player with big potential for the Premier League, but do Leeds need that?

Pascal Struijk is the exact same, if not better, and Charlie Cresswell is also making his way through the ranks and is close to wanting a full season of regular football.

Add those two with Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and Diego Llorente and Jesse Marsch has five options that are all solid enough to be kept around.

With signings much more needed in midfield, the final third and potentially another full-back and goalkeeper, Leeds are much better off leaving the others to fight over this one.

Collins was one of the main reasons Leeds stayed in the Premier League with his handball leading to a Newcastle penalty on the final day, as the Clarets lost 2-1 and were relegated themselves.

Now, it doesn’t look likely that he will end up at Elland Road after that.
