Leeds United want to hand Patrick Bamford a new deal
Leeds United want to hand striker Patrick Bamford a contract extension amid reports linking him with Liverpool.
The Athletic claimed on their website last month that the Reds are admirers of the Whites target man, with manager Jurgen Klopp showering praises on him ahead of his side’s meeting with Leeds in April.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post, the Elland Road outfit are now looking to reward Bamford with a new long-term deal that reflects their Premier League status.
The 27-year-old ended last season with 17 Premier League goals and seven assists in 38 games, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane being the only Englishman with more goals.
Bamford is not only admired for his strikes, his ability to defend from the front is also a huge part of Leeds’ style of play, and Klopp deploys a similar system at Liverpool.
We need to hold on to such a quality striker in the long-term and cannot afford to get him fantasising about a potential exit.
While he missed out on England’s European Championship squad, his quality remains glaring for all to us, and manager Gareth Southgate could have done with his quality in the drab goalless draw against Scotland on Friday.
Bamford has proven that he is Premier League quality and is worth their weight in gold for Leeds.
We cannot wait for the news of his contract extension and are eagerly looking forward to him impressing next season.
Forcing his way into England’s World Cup definitely weighs heavily on his mind, and head coach Marcelo Bielsa will be looking to help him with that.
