Mark Jackson shares injury update on Leeds sensation Joe Gelhardt

Mark Jackson has confirmed that Leeds United starlet Joe Gelhardt was withdrawn on Friday night [03 December] as a precaution.

The 19-year-old only made it to half-time during the Whites’ Under-23s game against Leicester City.

After the game, Jackson confirmed that Gelhardt suffered a dead leg, and you would think that he has a chance of being involved on Sunday if Marcelo Bielsa wants to use him.

A dead leg isn’t a serious injury and the medical staff dealt with it well.

Joe Urquhart relayed what Jackson said on his Twitter account.

He said: “Mark Jackson says Joe Gelhardt was taken off as a precaution at half-time – dead leg. Says Cresswell didn’t realise he was on a booking for his red. Hugely frustrated with the result, just wants his players to keep faith. Next PL2 game is the 20th v Everton.”

Gelhardt should be all good.

This is good news for Leeds heading into the Brentford game, and it should mean that Gelhardt is absolutely fine to contribute, and he scored yet another goal before he was withdrawn.

However, with Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling back, will there be space on the bench for the forward?

That remains to be seen, but it was good to see Leeds being sensible with him last night.

Hopefully, he can rest up today, and if Bielsa wants to have him in the squad, he can.

It would be great to see Gelhardt involved against the Bees on Sunday, as you would think his direct and unpredictable style of play would cause them all sorts of problems.

However, Bielsa has proved in the past that he is happy to leave Gelhardt out, and if he doesn’t recover from his dead leg, you would expect he might miss out on the matchday squad again.

In other Leeds United news, Bielsa has heaped praise on one of his key men.
