Leeds United transfer news with Luke Baartman move on cards
Leeds United want to sign Cape Town Spurs striker Luke Baartman with a January move on the cards, according to The Scottish Sun on 20 November.
The newspaper reported on its website that Baartman is one of the top prospects in South Africa having only made his senior league debut in October.
Celtic are named as other clubs in the race for the young talisman, with top English clubs also said to be interested as things start to heat up already.
The 17-year-old is already being tipped for a “huge” future in the game, despite still being in education as he looks to take the next step very shortly.
Celtic are not said to view Baartman as a first-team player immediately, so it would be easy to assume that Leeds are in the same boat as they look to strengthen their academy every year.
Options.
Academy football and signings in that area are becoming more and more popular with the money being spent simply getting higher with each year.
It comes at a time that Manchester City have agreed a record-breaking fee to sign Finley Gorman from Leeds, who will be looking to bring in exciting talent to replace him [Phil Hay].
Baartman likely wouldn’t be a direct replacement if Leeds could sign him, but he would join a squad full of attacking talent like Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph looking to push through.
It looks as though Celtic may be the biggest rivals for this signing though, so making a move early in January could make sense for all parties.
With the first-team massively settled under Daniel Farke after an impressive summer of signings, there may be more of a focus on younger signings, if anything in January.
This is the first link of many that will likely arrive in the next month before the action begins.
In other Leeds United news, sources reveal that the Whites want to sign an EFL ‘Star’ and his club may be forced to sell him in January.
