Leeds United transfer news as Leo Hjelde linked with Elland Road exit
Leo Hjelde could be on his way out of Leeds United this summer as he’s linked with a move to Serie A outfit Salernitana.
According to Corriere Dello Sport [23 June, Page 19], after staying in the top flight, the Italian side want to bolster their squad and are eyeing the 19-year-old as a surprise target.
The 19-year-old is not a first-team regular at Elland Road but has made a few senior appearances over the last year or two.

Keep him
Hjelde was brought to the club by Marcelo Bielsa and it was under the Argentine that he made his first-team debut for the Whites.
Speaking to Norwegian publication Dagbladet in March 2023, the 19-year-old admitted that Bielsa admired and believed in him – which was pivotal in helping him become a senior player at Elland Road.
However, since his departure, Hjelde appears to have fallen down in the pecking order and could capitalise on the side’s relegation to force a move away from the club.

From a Leeds point of view, it makes sense to keep him as he’s one of the best teenage talents at the club and they will require to rely on their bench strength in the Championship.
Hjelde’s played different positions and he could be a decent versatile option going forward for the next manager.
It will be interesting to see who takes over at Elland Road and whether or not there’s place for the 19-year-old in his side.
In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has made a claim on any “obstacles” the Whites may have with an announcement mooted in the coming days.
