Leeds United target Wilfried Gnonto wanted by Club Brugge

Leeds United could pay the price of not wrapping up the deal to sign Zurich striker Wilfried Gnonto with Club Brugge reportedly entering the race.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the Belgian club have made contact with the player on Saturday evening as they are keen on signing him this summer.

Leeds have already agreed on personal terms with the player and are understood to be leading the queue to secure his services. [TEAMtalk]

Via Twitter, Di Marzio wrote, “Club Brugge make contact in the last few hours for Gnonto.”

Leeds have known all summer that they wanted to sign a new striker, but have waited until the final week of the window to make a move.

They may have agreed personal terms with the player, but they are yet to agree a fee with the Swiss club.

Given Club Brugge’s interest, they are now unlikely to settle for a low transfer fee.

Leeeds could have ideally signed the Italy international for a cheaper fee, a week ago but now they will have to pay over the top.

It will be difficult to beat the Belgian club to his services as they can not only offer him the exposure of featuring regularly in a title winning side but they can also give him the chance to play in the Champions League – something he will not get at Leeds United.

The fact that the player has agreed personal terms with the Elland Road outfit means that there is some chance that he will snub a move to Club Brugge and move to the Premier League.

The pull of the English top flight coupled with Leeds’ rich history may be the deciding factor, but it remains to be seen where the player’s heart lies at the moment thus far.

He’s not known about any interest from a Champions League club, and this might change his mind and Leeds could miss out on yet another target.

They cannot continue to leave things until the final days of the window, as they will not end up with the players they want, and it will lead to have dire consequences over the coming months.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a final push for an international striker after he was left out of his side’s matchday squad last weekend.
