Leeds United target Ross Barkley set to stay at Chelsea in January
Chelsea are reportedly going to keep hold of midfielder Ross Barkley in the January transfer window despite his links to Leeds United.
According to The Daily Mail, Leeds are looking for another midfielder on loan despite being in contract negotiations with Adam Forshaw.
However, Barkley is unlikely to walk through the door at Elland Road this month as he appears primed to stay put in West London.
There were doubts from the outset as to whether or not Barkley would be a good fit in this Leeds system.
The England international is a shadow of his old self of set the Premier League alight with his performances at Everton.
At the time, he appeared to be England’s next big thing, but his impact on matches have waned over the years.
He’s currently 28 and has been ravaged by several injuries over the course of the last few seasons.
His work-rate is also not something exemplary – something that Marcelo Bielsa would not be too keen about it.
Stylistically, Barkley appears a misfit for the Argentine’s system at the club so signing him would’ve made very little sense.
Bielsa likes hard-working players who are capable of playing in a plethora of positions and are able to close down the opposition for the entire 90 minutes.
Barkley clearly does not check any of those boxes and it’s a good thing that he’s staying put at Chelsea as he would add very little value to the Leeds squad.
