Leeds United target John Swift set to leave this summer

Leeds United could sign John Swift on a free transfer this summer if he does not sign a new deal at Reading before his current one expires on June 30.

According to LeedsLive, he is set to end his six-year stay at the club as no progress has been made on a contract extension.

The Englishman has been linked with a move to Elland Road in the past and even explored the option of signing him on a cut price deal in January [LeedsLive].

Sign him

Swift has been on the club’s radar since Marcelo Bielsa was the manager and he did not seem to receive any resistance from Victor Orta and the rest of the board.

The Englishman is clearly a midfielder who has aspirations of playing in the Premier League and Leeds seem well prepared to offer him that on a platter.

They’ve been desperately in the hunt for a central midfielder for the last two summers, but to no avail.

Adam Forshaw remains the last senior midfielder they signed and it’s nearly been five years since that happened.

Swift will come to Elland Road highly recommended and has been labelled as “outstanding” in the past.

There will not be any regrets even if it doesn’t work out as he will be signed on a free and could still fill the role of a squad player.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are leading the race to complete a major signing and have already opened talks to seal a £25m deal.
