Leeds United target Cody Gakpo wants Premier League switch

Leeds United target Cody Gakpo is reportedly eyeing a switch to the Premier League amid interest from Southampton as well.

According to Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett, a £21million bid from the Saints was rejected by PSV as they’re looking for £25million to part ways with the Dutchman.

Leeds are also understood to be holding a firm interest in signing him, to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, and with no attacker still signed ahead of deadline day, one cannot rule out the Whites trying one final punt.

Dorsett wrote via Twitter, “Saints see £21m bid for #PSV winger Cody Gakpo rejected. Dutch club holding out for £25m. Gakpo keen on move to Premier League, and was disappointed when #mufc withdrew interest to focus on Antony.”

If Andrea Radrizzani does not want a repeat of last season, then he’s got to loosen the purse strings and allow them to spend on signing a big name.

While Gakpo isn’t an out an out number nine, he is Robin van Persie esque and has featured as a lone striker on numerous occasions.

Rather than signing Hwang from Wolves, Leeds must prioritise a move for the Dutchman and signing him would make this window a 9/10 in terms of incomings.

Radz knows that in the grand scheme of things, £25million is relatively a small amount if it means that his side are not going to be face relegation trouble this season.

At 23, he is also extremely young so if he wants to leave two years later, Leeds are guaranteed to make a decent profit from his sale.

There’s no reason why Radrizzani should not be infatuated by this move, especially after he was spotted liking a rumour about Gakpo.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a final push for an international striker after he was left out of his side’s matchday squad last weekend.
