Leeds United target Cody Gakpo issues update as Manchester United close in on Antony

Leeds United-linked Cody Gakpo has confirmed that Manchester United are keen on securing his services this summer.

However, he also admitted that there are other clubs in the race and he could be on his way out of PSV before the window closes on September 1.

The Daily Mirror claim that PSV value the Netherlands international at £40million and Leeds are one of the teams showing an interest in the 23-year-old.

According to the Sun, Gakpo said, “There are also other options, United are a serious option.

“I can hear it all. I try to shut myself off from it, but it’s difficult.”

Fabrizio Romano also shared additional quotes, “Antony to Man Utd? Nice for him… but for me and my future, I think that has no influence.

“It’s like a puzzle so in the next days I will see which puzzle fits best — for me, it’d be certainly not bad to stay at PSV. We’ll see”.

Still a chance?

Gakpo may not be the out-and-out number nine Leeds want but he has moved to playing that role in recent months.

He has been likened to Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie and Leeds would certainly not mind getting a player of that style.

Whether or not he would want to leave for a club that does not play in the Champions League, remains to be seen, but Manchester United may not want to sign two players in the same position.

Arsenal are the other club linked with a move so it will be interesting to see if the Whites table a bid ahead of the transfer deadline for him.

We would love to see the 23-year-old at Elland Road and the fact that he’s talking about other clubs being interested means that the door is still ajar for an exit.

Leeds desperately need a new front man and there will be no complaints if Gakpo is the player they choose to bring in.

These are interesting few days in the market and we’re expecting bids to fly in for a few strikers.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a final push for an international striker after he was left out of his side’s matchday squad last weekend.
