Leeds United: talkSPORT pundit wowed by Willy Gnonto moment v Bristol City
Chris Iwelumo was wowed live on air as Willy Gnonto handed Leeds United the lead against Bristol City on Friday (2 February).
Speaking on co-commentary on talkSPORT 2 on Friday (09:04pm), the pundit said it was an “excellent strike” from the Italy international as he guided the ball past Robins keeper Max O’Leary on 47 minutes.
He added that the 20-year-old forward got a “great connection” on his shot as he sent a message to Daniel Farke that he is ready to deliver when called upon after being named in the starting lineup for the 1-0 victory at Ashton Gate.
“It’s an excellent strike, isn’t it?” said Iwelumo. “He’s taken the ball, first touch he’s moved it onto his left and he just takes the shot on. The first touch set it up and then he’s put everything on it, great connection in the back of the net.
“He’s been given an opportunity tonight and that’s all you can do is say to the manager ‘I’m here if you need me, this is what I’m going to deliver, I’m going to score goals and create for others, but I’m going to be a threat’.”
Willy Gnonto pushes himself into Leeds first-team picture
It was a great strike from Gnonto as he showed plenty of composure to get a strong effort away at goal to beat the Bristol City keeper.
It was the perfect start to the second half for Leeds after they were unfortunate to go in at the break level, having been the better team throughout the first half.
The Italian, who has been continuously linked with a move away from Elland Road, will be hoping that goal will provide him with a springboard this season after he’s spent the best part of the past few months on the bench.

Daniel Farke will be delighted to see the forward get on the scoresheet as he will know what an asset he could be over the next few months if he finds some form.
It was a huge three points for the Whites as that takes them up to second in the table as they look to challenge for an automatic promotion place this season.
